We are GARNER STRONG!
Family History Info

Elder Henry Garner, the father of our Henry "Bub" Garner was a slave in Darlington County, SC (now Florence County, SC) when slavery ended. It is speculated that Elder Henry lived and served on the plantation of J.N. Garner who owned close to 30 slaves in 1860. Although some records may indicate that Elder Henry was a native of Clarendon County, SC, no Garner families lived in Manning when the 1860 U.S. Federal Census was taken. However, on the 1870 U.S. Federal Census, Elder Henry was the only Garner listed as a resident of Clarendon County, which suggests that he was not originally from the area. In addition, my personal DNA has matched with a few individuals whose ancestor, Charlie Garner (possibly a sibling of Elder Henry) is documented as being born, lived, and died in Florence County, SC.
