Meet Travis 'Chef T-Rav' Hodges! Chef T-Rav will be sharing his culinary skills with us on Friday evening of our family reunion at Wescott Park. Chef T-Rav is a very popular caterer throughout Charleston and we want everyone to know a little more about him:
Q: How long have you been in the business?
A: I have been in the Food and Beverage field for about 14 years now. I started catering fresh out of college after I graduated in 2010.
Q: What made you fall in love with cooking?
A: Seeing my uncles in magazines/newspaper articles in their chef uniform and cooking for large amounts of people inspired me to attend culinary school to become a chef.
Q: What was one of your craziest experiences as a chef?
A: One of the craziest catering experiences I’ve had was I catered for a birthday party and was not told that the family had found a different caterer, so I still got paid in full and the family had a ton of food to eat/give away from both caterers.
Q: What’s your cooking specialty?
A: I kind of don’t have a specialty but my clients/customers would say that my best dishes would be my famous pasta salad, seafood salad, red rice and, of course, my cheesy mac & cheese.
Q: How did you learn to cook? Training?
A: I was taught how to cook from my mother and grandmother. I wanted to learn more about food/baking, so I decided after high school I wanted to attend culinary school. I attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts-Atlanta. It was an accelerated program. Each class was 3 weeks long and I had to pass each class with a “C” or above to pass the course. The last 3 months of my college career, I did a 3-month externship Downtown Charleston at The Francis Marion Hotel.
"I appreciate you all in choosing me and my staff to season your taste buds with great Southern cuisine from the soul! I can't wait for you to eat and enjoy my food that I prepare for you!" Chef T-Rav
